There was shock and disbelief in the corridors of the three-floor head office of Syndicate Bank in Manipal soon after the news of the arrest of its CMD S K Jain by the CBI sleuths came to light on Saturday.
Jain had assumed charge as chairman and managing director of the bank on July 8, 2013.
The mood in the bank was normal, although there was silence prevailing all over the bank premises. The functioning of the bank was not affected. But there was a gloomy atmosphere and employees went about their work silently.
Officials tightlipped
The senior officials in the bank were tightlipped. However, three of the senior officials told Deccan Herald that the news was shocking. One of them said, “I am not a competent person to react. Whatever has happened is very sad,” he said.
“It is a sensitive issue. We have no extra information other than what was mentioned in the media. Full details are awaited. We were not informed from the office in Bangalore. We are not sure of anything,” another officer said.
