‘Shun political barriers to provide rehabilitation’

People for People organisation, Bengaluru chairman Chakravarthi Chandrachud requested the government to provide rehabilitation facility to the natural calamity affected, without involving politics.

Speaking during a programme organised by People for People organisation in Madikeri on Tuesday, he
said that the government is not working seriously towards constructing houses for the natural calamity affected.

The relief fund which had come to the government treasury from people is not benefiting the victims, he said and wanted to know why the government is not disclosing the amount collected from people towards relief measures.

Chakravarthi said that there are lots of speculations on the reason for Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya going on a long leave.

He also stated that an amount of Rs 3.50 lakh collected through ‘Ranga Sapthaha’ programme in Bengaluru staged for the benefit of natural calamity victims and the fund gathered through ‘one rupee campaign’ is handed over to the educational purpose of the natural calamity affected children.

District Hotel and Resort Association president Nagendra Prasad said that the assistance from various states and from the foreign countries has not been utilised properly. The tourism is catching up gradually, he added.

The eligible students were provided with financial assistance towards their education. A documentary on the Kodagu natural calamity was screened on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Chakravarthi Chandrachud said that cheques to the extent of Rs 32.17 crore contributed by various organisations to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund have bounced. Lamenting over the false assurances by the sponsors, he said that the government should make the Kodagu reconstruction authority active soon, to rehabilitate the affected people.
