Supreme Court declines to consider bail plea by Karnataka recruitment scams kingpin

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to consider bail plea by R D Patil alias Rudragouda, against the Karnataka High Court's order of August 31, 2024, denying him any relief in a case related to malpractices in recruitment examination scam.

A bench of Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih allowed senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Patil, alleged kingpin of various recruitment scams, to withdraw the petition.

The court, however, granted him liberty to make a fresh plea after a gap of one year.

The petitioner was accused of indulging in examination malpractice through electronic means, specifically Bluetooth devices, in various state government recruitment processes in Karnataka.

The petitioner was arrested on November 10, 2023 and faced stringent charges under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act.

The High Court had declined him relief after having noted that he was involved in multiple cases related to examination malpractices including Junior Engineering Examination scam, PSI recruitment scam, FDA recruitment scam.

It said in view of the fact that the petitioner's case fell in exceptional category, and the KPSC examination were going to be held in near future, he could not granted bail.
