<p>University Registrar Prof Chinnappa Gowda, in the show cause notice served on Somayaji on March 24, stated that the students had sought action against Somayaji for participating in a public rally against the Anti-Cow Slaughter Bill, which was held in the City on February 25. <br /><br />“As per the Mangalore University Employees Service (Conduct) Rules, participating in such programme amounts to violation,” Gowda stated in the notice and sought Somayaji’s clarification. <br /><br />‘Allegations baseless’<br /><br />In his reply sent on March 30, Somayaji said that the allegations against him were baseless. “I had participated in the rally on February 25 only after obtaining a casual leave (CL) in advance. Hence, it can never be a violation of Mangalore University Employees Service (Conduct) Rules. Further, neither students nor higher authorities have the rights to interfere in my personal affairs,” he added.<br /></p>
