Volunteers clear garbage, debris on Tannirbavi beach

The 25th Shramadan, under 5th phase of Swacchata Abhiyan of Ramakrishna Mission, was implemented at Tannirbavi beach and surrounding areas on Sunday.

The cleanliness drive was flagged off by ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (OMPL) Chief Executive Officer S S Nayak and Youth Sports Club Tannirbavi President Naveen Suvarna.

Nayak said, “It is every citizen’s responsibility to maintain cleanliness. Such Abhiyans will help citizens to contribute their mite towards nature and in keeping their surroundings clean. If more and more people participate in these Abhiyans the dream of Swacch Bharath will be a reality soon.”

About 250 volunteers under the guidance of Swami Ekagamyanandaji cleaned Tannirbavi beach. Volunteers picked up the plastic waste, papers and dirt from the beach area. Staff and employees of OMPL and MRPL under the guidance of CEO and S S Nayak removed the garbage littered on the beach and shifted it to the trucks.

The volunteers also cleaned the roads leading to the beach. Construction debris, garbage and heaps of sand and stones were removed with the help of earth movers. About five loads of garbage were removed from the surroundings of Tannirbavi beach.

In association with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Ramakrishna Mission carried out a special awareness programme for lorry drivers and cleaners in IOCL terminal.
