We will go head with new name to Ramanagara district: D K Shivakumar

Shivakumar told reporters that 'The change in name of Ramanagara district is a state matter. We also know the law. We know how to implement it'.

New Delhi: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Wednesday said that despite the Union Home Ministry rejecting the state government's proposal to change Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South, the state will go ahead with the new name.

Shivakumar, who was in here, told reporters that "The change in name of Ramanagara district is a state matter. We also know the law. We know how to implement it."

Attacking Union Steel Minister H D Kumaraswamy, he said "All departments from the central government responded positively to this issue.There are a few ministers here who have written to the Union Home Minister asking him not to change the name.”

When asked if it was Kumaraswamy, he said, “Who else ?."

Insisting that this is nothing but hate politics by Kumaraswamy, the DCM said "When you change your name, you can change it by filing an affidavit. This is a state matter. This is the best example for how hate politics is going on in the state.”

When asked about MLA Munirathna's allegations that he and his brother D K Suresh Shivakumar said "Let him carry his photo daily."

The decision of the state to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South district suffered a setback as the Home Ministry had written to the Karnataka Government asking it not to pursue the proposal citing opposition from local residents.

When Shivakumar announced the change Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South district, Kumaraswamy and BJP had strongly opposed it.
