Chikkamagaluru-Udupi MP Shobha Karandlaje laid the foundation for development works worth Rs 3.22 crore at Tarikere Railway Station on Friday.
The work on platform 1 and 2, roof for passenger waiting shelter, toilets and other works will be taken up.
Speaking on the occasion, the MP said that the Central government has decided to construct overbridges in the railway station. The railway station will be upgraded in the future.
She said that she has already appealed to the Railway Ministry to provide stoppage for Janshatabdi train from Shivamogga to Bengaluru. The railways have given a green signal for stoppage of Vishwa Manava train at Shivani.
The railway officials should ensure that the land belonging to the railways is not encroached upon, she added.
MLA D S Suresh, ZP vice president K R Anandappa and others were present.
