<p>Mandya/Chamarajanagar: Unable to bear the harassment by lenders, Lohith Kumar, alias Naveen (35) of Valageremenasa village in K R Pete taluk of Mandya district in Karnataka, died by suicide as he hanged himself in his house on Saturday morning. In another incident in Chamarajanagar, a woman died by suicide due to distress over her husband’s loan burden.</p><p>“The lenders had visited Naveen’s house and assaulted him by grabbing his collar, demanding the interest. They had threatened to kill him. He had to repay Rs 5 lakh, including interest, on a Rs 2 lakh loan. Last week, Lohith filed a complaint, requesting more time to repay the loan. We had warned the lenders and had sought a one-month extension. However, they harassed him again before the deadline. But, this is far from the truth,” said SP Mallikarjun Baladandi.</p><p><strong>Woman takes own life in Chamarajanagar</strong></p><p>In Kotekere village of Gundlupet taluk, a woman named Madevi (26) died by suicide as she hanged herself under distress over her husband's loan.</p><p>She left behind an eight-year-old child and husband Ningaraju. She was married to a man named Ningaraju who hailed from the same village. Ningaraju had availed a loan of Rs 5 lakh to build a new house. Worried about this, Madevi hanged herself using a saree, when no one was at their home, police said.</p><p>"There was a loan, but there was no harassment. My daughter committed suicide due to her worry over the loan," said the deceased's father, Rajanayak, at Begur Police Station.</p>
