<p>Thiruvanthapuram: Around two kilogram ganja and weighing balance meant for retail sale were seized in a late night police raid at a college hostel in Kochi, Kerala.</p><p>The seizures were made at the men's hostel of the Kalamasserry Government Polytechnic College in Kochi on Thursday night.</p><p>The incident kicked off a political row in the state as one of the students involved in the case is a local leader of the ruling CPM's student outfit Students Federation of India (SFI).</p><p>Following a tip off, a police team carried out the raids and seized 1.9 kilogram ganja and weighing balance from one room and 9.7 grams from another room. The three held were identified as Akash, 21, Abhiraj, 21, and Adityan 21. </p>.Lithuanian fugitive wanted in US nabbed by Kerala police .<p>While 1.9 kilogram ganja was seized from the Akash's room, 9.7 gram was seized from the Abhiraj and Adityan's. Akash was remanded to judicial custody, while Abhiraj and Adityan were released on bail as the quantity seized from them was low.</p><p>Abhiraj is the secretary of the SFI unit of the college. Hence his involvement triggered a political row.</p><p>Abhiraj however denied any involvement in the case. He said that he was falsely implicated in the case and suspected that ganja could have been placed in his room by workers of Congress' student wing Kerala Students' Union. SFI also alleged that Akash, from whom 1.9 kilogram ganja was seized, is a KSU activist. But the KSU leadership denied it.</p><p>All the three final year students were later placed under suspension from the college.</p><p>Following the back to back instances of students indulging in criminal activities under the influence of narcotic substances, the Kerala police launched a massive anti-narcotic drive in the state. It resulted in the arrest of over 4,000 persons including foreign nationals and persons from other states in the last three weeks.</p><p>Police sources said that many students were found to be involved in ganja trade as it was giving good returns to them.</p><p>Kerala governor Rajendra Arlekar recently convened a meeting of university vice-chancellors in the state and directed them to initiate special drives against drug abuse in college campuses.</p>
