<p>Thiruvananthapuram: The Southwest monsoon made an early entry with the Indian Meteorological Department on Friday announcing that the monsoon has set in over Kerala eight days ahead of the normal date of June 1.</p><p>It is after 16 years that the southwest monsoon is making an entry before May 29. In 2009 the monsoon onset over Kerala was on May 23.</p><p>The entry of the monsoon was also marked with heavy rains across Kerala causing extensive damage. </p><p>The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall over Kerala during the next seven days. IMD issued red alert in five districts on Sunday and eleven districts on Monday. Four persons, including a child, had a narrow escape after the car in which they were traveling, fell into a stream after the driver lost control owing to the rough weather at Vakkallor in Malappuram. Incidents of water logging on roads and buildings suffering partial damages were reported from various parts of the state. At many places trees uprooted causing extensive damages. Extensive crop loss was also reported.</p><p>Revenue minister K Rajan said that steps were taken to open as many as 3,950 relief camps across the state to shift people living in risky places. People living in calamity prone areas were being advised to shift to relief camps or safe places.</p>
