<p>The BJP-led Maharashtra government spent nearly Rs 1 crore on the grand swearing-in ceremony of the new Assembly, at a time when it claimed shortage of funds and the state was reeling under severe drought.<br /><br /><br /></p>.<p>Right to Information (RTI) applications filed by activist Anil Galgali have revealed that the BJP’s expenditure on the October 31 ceremony at Wankhede Stadium was a whopping Rs 98.33 lakh.<br /><br />Citing the information he received, the Galgali gave a break up of the BJP’s expenditure. “In reply to the query, Under Secretary S G Moghe informed me that the government spent Rs 98,33,830, of which the departments of Executive Engineer (Establishments), City & Executive Engineer (Electric) has been approved of Rs 67,00,660 and Rs 30,60,670,” the activist said. <br /><br />He found that a chunk of the money the BJP spent was on security for the event, but it still has not shelled out what they owe. “The Additional Police Commissioner (South Region) was approved of Rs 72,500 to provide DFMD/MHMD for security screening at entry points on rent. The government has still to pay the bills as on date,” Galgali said.<br /></p>
