Kunal Kamra row | Breach of privilege notice moved in Maharashtra Legislative Council against comedian

Mumbai: Even as Kunal Kamra’s fans across the world continued to donate from amounts ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 10,000 after his jibes against NDA leaders, the issue has taken a new turn with a BJP legislator moving a Breach of Privilege notice against the stand-up comedian who is already facing a FIR and police case. 

Kamra’s jibe against Shiv Sena chief leader and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has snowballed into a major political issue in Maharashtra. 

On the last day of the Budget session, a ‘Breach of Privilege’ notice was issued by Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Bornare in the Assembly and by BJP MLC Pravin Darekar in the Council. 

Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar and Legislative Council Chairperson Prof Ram Shinde would take a call on the notices. 

Similar notices were also moved against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare. 

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police rejected Kamra's request for a week's time to appear before the authorities - and another summon is being issued against him.

In the 45-minute-long YouTube video, Naya Bharat, Kamra has hit out at the ruling alliance at the Centre and Maharashtra through satire which has not done well. 

In the comments section, his fans are seen donating amounts ranging from Rs 400 to Rs 10,000 which  include Indian Rupees  as well US dollars, British Pounds, Euros, Canadian Dollars and UAE Dirhams. 

Both Kamra and Andhare disrespected the dignity of legislative institutions through their remarks, Darekar said.

In the Maharashtra assembly, Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Bornare submitted a breach of privilege notice against Andhare for allegedly mocking Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Presiding officer Sanjay Kelkar said speaker Rahul Narwekar will take a decision on the notice.
