Mumbai man kills self in hotel room; blames wife, aunt

Mumbai: After the tragic suicide cases involving Atul Subhash and Manav Sharma, a 41-year-old TV industry animator, Nishant Tripathi, ended his life inside a hotel room in Mumbai after allegedly being harassed by his wife and aunt.

The Mumbai police have now filed an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) against Tripathi's wife, Apoorva Parikh, and her maternal aunt, Prarthana Mishra, for abetment to suicide and have launched an investigation.

A resident of Virar in Palghar district, Nishant checked into the Sahara Hotel on 28 February in Mumbai and put a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door.

Nishant hailed from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Before he died by suicide, Tripathi had written a note, which has now come to light.

A few days later, the hotel staff opened the door with the help of a master key and found him hanging, after which the police were called.

The suicide note of the victim was found on his company’s computer system secured with a password.

“Hi babe, by the time you read this, I’ll be gone. In my last moments, I could’ve hated you for everything that happened, but I don’t. For this moment, I choose love. I loved you then. I love you now. And as I had promised, it’s not going to fade…My mother knows that among all the other struggles I faced, you and Prarthana Mausi [aunt] are also responsible for my death. So, I beg you, don’t approach her now. She’s broken enough. Let her grieve in peace,” Tripathi reportedly wrote in the note.

No arrests have been made so far.

Nishant’s mother, Neelam Chaturvedi, a social activist, has taken to social media seeking justice for her son.

“For three days, he was in the hotel and planning to end his life….it would have been very painful for him,” she said. “My son was very distributed…he told my daughter (Prachi) that he was disturbed…his wife has tortured him severely,” she told reporters.
