Minor girl gang-raped, thrown in tube well in Uttar Pradesh; 2 arrested

According to a complaint filed by the victim's father, she went out to throw garbage Friday morning when she was taken away by the accused and was gang-raped

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by three youths and was later thrown into a tubewell in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district on Saturday.

According to the police sources, two culprits were arrested while a massive manhunt was launched to nab the third.

Sources said that the victim had gone out of her home at her village under Ghosi police station area to throw garbage when she was abducted by three youths, who also hailed from the same village.

The youths took the girl to a secluded place and took turn to rape her before throwing her into a nearby tubewell after tying her hands and stuffing cloths into her mouth to prevent her from shouting for help, sources said.

The victim was later recovered from the tubewell by the locals and was admitted to the hospital.

Acting swiftly after a complaint was lodged in this connection by the father of the victim, the police nabbed two accused from a hideout. Police teams were sent to nab the third, sources added.

"The victim was found from a tube well in an agriculture field, about 200 metres away from her house, with her hands and legs tied and cloth stuffed inside her mouth," Additional SP Tribhuvan Nath said. He said an FIR was registered under the POCSO Act and the girl was sent for medical examination.

The family members of the victim, however, alleged that the police did not allow them to meet her in the hospital and also that they (cops) were hobnobbing with the accused persons. An irate mob later raised slogans against the police.
