Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for remaining mute on Mumbai violence and his alleged failure in taking up the issue of illegal immigrants.

In his Independence Day speech at Junagadh town in Saurashtra, Modi referred to the prime minister’s Independent Day speech, pointing out that while he had spoken about the violence in Assam, he had chosen to remain silent on the Mumbai violence.

“You presented your grief on Assam violence but you were mum on Mumbai violence. This is very unfortunate. Problem of Bangladeshi’s infiltration has become a very serious problem and still you did not include this in our speech. If you had included the problem of Bangladeshi infiltration, people of this country would be quite satisfied,” Modi said.
