Parliament Highlights: No end to deadlock, 3 Bills passed in din

A bill that seeks to amend the Central Universities Act, 2009, to provide for the establishment of a university in the Union territory of Ladakh was introduced in Lok Sabha on Thursday.

. After passing a bill that seeks to prohibit any agitation and strike by anyone engaged in essential defence services, Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day amid continuous protests by opposition members over the Pegasus controversy and various other issues.

. Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said at a press conference here that his party is ready for a "meaningful" debate in Parliament be it on the Pegasus issue or those concerning farmers.

He, however, added that the opposition could have sought clarification from IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw when he made a statement on the snooping controversy in Parliament which would have led to a debate but its members, he noted, instead tore the statement.

Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee Wednesday said the suspension of six party MPs in Rajya Sabha during the day for protesting against the Pegasus snooping controversy has proved that Prime Minister Narendra Modi regime has conceded defeat in the case and vowed to carry on the "fight for truth".

. The TMC hit out at the government on Wednesday after the suspension of the party's six MPs for unruly conduct in Rajya Sabha, alleging that it was trying to divide the Opposition by allowing discussion on farm laws while ignoring the demand on Pegasus snooping issue.

It asserted that the Opposition stands united in its efforts to corner the government over the spyware issue.
