Now, it's Kissing Baba of Kadapa

Last Updated 25 December 2014, 21:07 IST

Here comes a ‘sure cure’ through kisses from a self-styled Kissing Baba. The Baba in saffron robes  hugs devotees for a long time, then uses his probing hands to ‘heal’ the devotees, of course only women, and may even plant a few kisses to complete the healing process.

The story that appeared in several Telugu news channels made the Kadapa police to investigate the case of the Kissing Baba.

The truth startled the police because the Baba who was simply clinging on to the women devotees was a suspected lunatic and his master Subba Reddy was simply cheating gullible women, who seek divine intervention rather than medical help to conceive children.

Subba Reddy unveiled the Kissing Baba at a religious place in Yerraguntla of Kadapa district. He spread the word that the hug of the Baba cured all ailments and would also drive away spirits which are the main reason for women not conceiving children.

While the women devotees shown in the TV coverage watching the Baba hugging and kissing another devotee seemed to have no objection, the police took action and a  case of fraud, molestation and ‘inducing a person to believe that he’ll be rendered an object of divine displeasure’ (Section IPC 508) were filed against the culprits. Now Subba Reddy is cooling his heels in jail.
