<p> Railways is mulling to withdraw peons posted at officers' bungalows as recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission, a move likely to cause resentment among senior officials.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Referred to as telephone attendant and dak khalasi (TADK), more than 5000 peons are currently deployed at the residences of railway officers.<br /><br />Railways is considering to issue notification for withdrawal of peons from the residences of officers, said sources in railways.<br /><br />Railways have already implemented the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations hiking salaries of railwaymen. "The abolition of system was also one of its recommendations," the sources said.<br /><br />In the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, the peons were upgraded from Group D to Group C employees.<br /><br />Though there are about 15,000 officers in railways, all are not entitled for TADK. "Only Director level and above are entitled for TADK," they said.<br /><br />The system of deploying peons at officers' bungalows is in practise since the colonial days.</p>
