"The house had become so dilapidated over the years that it necessitated urgent work," Vasan, also chairman of the board of trustees of Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha told reporters here.
The entire renovation work cost Rs 30 lakh, he said. "The renovated house will have a special VIP room, a dining hall, a modern kitchen, a Dhyana Mandapam (meditation hall) and a library comprising books about the saint, CDs of Thyagaraja kritis sung by eminent musicians," Vasan said.
Thyagaraja was born in Tiruvarur on May 4, 1767 moved to Thiruvaiyaru and stayed in the house till his death on Jan 4, 1847. He rendered hundreds of kritis praising Lord Rama and the house used to be his temple for the Lord.
He was one among the music trinity, the other two being Shyama Sastri and Muthuswamy Dikshithar.
