<p>Chennai: A special court here on Monday sentenced to death a youth for pushing a 20-girl-old college student to death before a moving train in October 2022 after stalking her for about a year. Sathish, 23, was found guilty by the Mahila Special Court on Saturday and the sentence was pronounced on December 30. </p><p>The crime shook the city as Sathish pushed Sathya before a train at the busy St. Thomas Mount suburban railway station in broad daylight. After Sathya’s death, her father, unable to bear the loss of his daughter, had died by suicide.</p>.Chandrasekharan murder case: Parole for convict triggers fresh political row in Kerala.<p>Convicting the accused under section 302 (murder) of the IPC, the judge imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Satish besides sentencing him to three years rigorous imprisonment under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and a fine of Rs 10,000. </p><p>Sathish was arrested from Chennai’s suburbs on October 14, a day after the murder. The police filed a water-tight case by relying on the testimonies of 70 eye witnesses, CCTV footage and forensic evidence. </p><p>“...the accused is sentenced to death, and that he be hanged by the neck, till he is dead, subject to confirmation by the High Court of Madras,” J Sridevi, judge of the special court in her order, said. She also directed the state government to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to younger sisters, Tharani and Monisha, of Sathya for the mental trauma caused to them.</p><p>The girl’s family filed two complaints against Sathish in 2021 and 2022 but no action was taken as a “compromise” was reached between the two families. Father of the boy was a retired police personnel and the girl’s mother is a police personnel too. The man was let off with a warning. </p><p>The two were acquaintances as they lived in the same area, but Sathya stopped talking to Sathish a year ago following which the stalking started and increased after the girl got engaged to another person. </p><p>Police had then said the murder was pre-planned as Sathish visited the station at the same time for three continuous days. </p>
