Chennai: Two persons, including a minor boy, were gored to death by a bull during a manjuvirattu (bull-chasing sport) event in Sivaganga district in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Rahul, a 12-year-old boy, died when the bull, which was released by its owner, came and hit him as he was sitting inside the spectators' gallery.

A 36-year-old man also died in the event when a bull gored him to death, police said, adding that about 70 people were injured during the event. Manjuvirattu is much like Jallikattu - which is played across southern districts of Tamil Nadu in different names.

The incident took place when Cooperation Minister K R Periyakaruppan and Sivaganga MP Karti P Chidambaram were witnessing the event.

Meanwhile, the world-famous Alanganallur jallikattu (bull-taming sport) also took place on Wednesday with over 800 bull tamers participating in the event. Over a dozen people were injured in the jallikattu event in Alanganallur, police said, adding that the first prize was bagged by Karthik, who tamed 18 bulls.
