TDP calls for united effort by Oppn to topple BJP

The Telugu Desam Party's annual conclave 'Mahanadu' has called for a united effort by Opposition parties to topple the BJP from power at the Centre in the 2019 general elections.

The regional party unanimously passed a political resolution in this regard in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

State Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, moving the resolution, said that several regional parties and Left parties have decided to come together to form an anti-BJP front.

The senior TDP leader further compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah to dictators Hitler and Mussolini.

"Modi-Shah's dictatorial attitude has deteriorated political culture in the saffron party. There is a gross misuse of central intelligence agencies and regulatory agencies — even the judiciary — to suppress the political opponents, which have become a matter of grave concern in the India polity," he said.

The resolution also said the Narendra Modi government is trying to make the states paupers by denying them the funds due to them so that they would depend on the Centre.

"The unilateral style of functioning of the Modi government has led to loss of faith and trust of the states over the Centre. The states feel that the concept of federalism is only on paper. The behaviour of the Centre and the restrictions imposed by them is nothing but a show of arrogance," the political resolution said.
