<p> A 40-year old forest guard was mauled to death by a tiger while he was on patrolling duty near Saddle Dam in Corbett National Park.<br /><br /></p>.<p>"The victim, Krishna Pal Singh, was patrolling the area yesterday with another guard when a tiger pounced on him from behind a tree," Forest SDO, R K Tiwari said.<br /><br />"Several shots were fired at the tiger by the other guard but that could not deter the animal from dragging the victim into the forest," he said.<br /><br />The tiger later left the body of the guard and ran into the forest.<br />The forest officials handed over the body to the police which was then sent for postmortem.<br />The Director of the Park, Sameer Sinha announced an interim relief of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family and a job in the Forest Department to the wife of the deceased.<br />He also gave the family Rs 25,000 for the last rites of the deceased.</p>
