Several trapped as under-construction building collapses at UP railway station

According to police sources, six workers have been rescued and rushed to the hospital.

Lucknow: Several labourers were injured, some seriously, when the lintel of an under construction building at Kannauj railway station in Uttar Pradesh collapsed on Saturday.

According to the police sources many labourers were feared trapped under the debris and efforts were on to rescue the trapped workers. So far 23 workers have been rescued, UP minister Aseem Arun, who visited the spot, said.

The officials said that eight workers, who suffered injuries were admitted to the hospital while three others with serious injuries were referred to Lucknow.

It was not immediately clear how many labourers were working on the site when the incident happened.

Sources said that Kannauj railway station was being renovated with a cost of Rs 13 crore under the Amrit Bharat scheme. Several new buildings and structures were being constructed at the railway station.

Sources said that the iron shuttering, which was laid a day before, caved in around noon on Saturday trapping over two dozen labourers.
