UP nurse allegedly gang-raped; stick, chilli powder inserted in genitals

The police allege that the woman had an affair with another man, who along with his family members, were responsible for injuries.

In another gruesome case of violence against women, a nurse in Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped by two men while four others held her down.

Reportedly, a stick and chilli powder was also inserted into her genitals.

According to a report in NDTV, the police however denied these allegations, stating that the women was having an affair and that it was her affair partner and his family members that beat her up.

Being a staff nurse in an area under the Churkhi police station, the woman was riding her scooter to work when she was waylaid by the men and dragged into a bush, her husband said.

"My wife, who works as a nurse, was heading to work around 9 am. She called me and told me what had happened. A man, his nephew and some other people beat her up. Four of the men held her down and two people gang-raped her. A stick and some chilli powder was also inserted into her private parts. The police have sent her for a medical check-up and treatment," the husband told NDTV.

Once police came to know about the incident, they rushed to the spot and found the nurse beaten up. She was promptly taken to the hospital.

"The woman was having an affair with a man from the same village. The man and her family beat her up. A police team took her to a hospital. She has made some serious allegations. We have registered a case and are investigating," Additional Superintendent of Police (Jalaun) Pradeep Kumar Verma told NDTV.

On Thursday, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a moving ambulance in Mauganj district of Madhya Pradesh. The shocking incident in the ambulance being operated under '108' emergency service took place on November 22 and two of the four accused in the case, including the driver, have been arrested, police said.
