UP pizza incident: Couple jumps from Shahjahanpur eatery after being confronted by saffron activists; 2 arrested

Lucknow: A youth and his lover sustained serious injuries when they jumped from the second floor of a Pizza shop allegedly after being confronted by some activists of a saffron outfit in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district.

A report was registered against five persons in this regard and two of the accused persons were arrested, the police said on Monday. The injured couple was admitted to a hospital.

According to the sources, the couple was sitting in the Pizza shop and waiting for their order to be served when six persons, claiming to be members of a saffron outfit, confronted them and pressed them to reveal their religion and caste.

Some of the activists also started making videos of the couple.

Apparently panicked by the interrogation, the girl ran toward the window and jumped. The youth also followed her and he too jumped from the same window. They suffered serious injuries and fractures, reports said.

The locals took them to the hospital and informed the police, which lodged a case and nabbed two accused persons.

Earlier also some saffron activists had stormed into a birthday party at a Café in Bareilly town in the state and allegedly assaulted some Muslim youths who were also present at the party.

The police, which had initially booked the Muslim youths in a case of breach of peace, later booked the saffron activists after the incident triggered an outrage on social media.
