Uttar Pradesh Police killed 48 criminals in encounters in 2025, highest under Adityanath since 2017

UP police chief Rajeev Krishna told reporters here on Wednesday that 266 criminals were killed in the past eight and half years in police encounters while around 11 thousand were injured during the same period.

Lucknow: As many as 48 criminals, the highest since Yogi Adityanath took over as chief minister of the state in 2017, were killed in encounters by the police in Uttar Pradesh in the year 2025.

UP police chief Rajeev Krishna told reporters here on Wednesday that 266 criminals were killed in the past eight and half years (since Adityanath became the CM) in police encounters while around 11 thousand were injured during the same period.

‘’Under the zero tolerance policy of the government, 48 criminals were killed in encounters in 2025….over 1.25 criminals were convicted…9 were awarded death sentences,’’ Krishna said.

He said that 18 cops were martyred and more than 1700 injured while fighting the criminals.

Krishna said that more than 33 thousand criminals, who carried rewards over their heads, were arrested in the past few years.

The DGP said that the state police had fared well on tackling crimes and corruption in the past years and had taken strict steps against terrorists, mafias, cyber criminals, drug syndicates and corrupt officials.

He said that the police would focus on developing AI infrastructure and checking crimes against women in the new year.

Krishna also said that properties worth Rs 413 crore belonging to the mafia elements were either seized or demolished while action was taken against 68 mafias in 2025.

He said that the incidents of crimes declined sharply in 2025 in comparison to 2016 and the state occupied 20th place in the country with regard to crimes.

Krishna also said that no incident of communal riots had taken place in the state in the past eight and half years.
