'What happens after death?': 17-year-old boy googled about life after death before dying by suicide

Lucknow: The Class 9 student, who had died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut town, had searched about the life after death on the Google and YouTube, the police investigations revealed.

The 17-year old student had shot himself dead with a country made pistol at his residence at Apex Colony in the town on Saturday night.

Sources said that the students had searched ‘Garud Purana’, which was one of the 18 ‘mahapuranas’ in Hinduism and contained chapters on funeral rites and also the life after death.

"What happens after death?" was searched by the student before he shot himself, the police said after examining his cell phone.

The Hindus often listened to the ‘Garud Purana’ after the death of someone in the family. It is believed that listening to the ‘garud purana’ enables the departed soul to rest in peace as well as having a calming effect on the grieving family members.

According to the police sources, the student was scolded by his elder brother and mother for not paying attention to his studies a few hours before he died by suicide.

Sources said that the student had a motorbike, which was sold by the family as they felt that it was a distraction.

The family members said that the student had closed the door of his room from inside before dying by suicide. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by the doctors.
