A CBI team questioned Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira on Tuesday in connection with the coal pilferage case. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also went to her nephew Abhishek's residence in Kolkata. BJP's West Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh was shown black flags by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters as he reached the hill town of Darjeeling to take part in a party programme.The prospect of the Left-Congress alliance and the newly formed Indian Secular Front (ISF) seemed to be in limbo with the seat-sharing discussions between the Congress and the ISF still being in knots. Left Front sources said that even though its seat-sharing with the ISF was almost finalised but talks between the political greenhorn and Congress barely made any progress.

Kolkata Police summons BJP leader Rakesh Singh in drug seizure case

The Kolkata Police on Monday issued summons to BJP leader Rakesh Singh in connection with its investigation of a drug seizure case in which Pamela Goswami, a functionary of the party's youth wing, and two of her associates were arrested last week, an officer said. Goswami has accused Singh of hatching a conspiracy to frame her in the case.

EC official to visit Bengal on Thursday, likely to issue guidelines for deployment of central forces

Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain, who is in charge of West Bengal, will visit the state on Thursday to oversee the preparedness for the upcoming assembly elections, officials said.

During his visit, Jain is scheduled to hold meetings with district magistrates, police superintendents and other senior officials of the state, they said. - PTI
