The 'black day' procession held by the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) opposing the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations, received a lukewarm response on Thursday. MES party workers demanded inclusion of Marathi speaking areas of Karnataka into Maharashtra.

Very few supporters of the pro-Maharashtra outfit, participated in the protest. The procession began from Sambhaji Garden, Mahadwar Road and passed through the main streets in the city.

MES activists raised slogans demanding inclusion of Belagavi and Marathi speaking areas into Maharashtra. They waved black flags and were wearing black clothes. Police personnel deputed for security outnumbered MES party workers. Businesses in areas where the MES procession passed, did not shut down.
