Minister Revanna’s goofy biscuit relief

Last Updated 21 September 2018, 10:49 IST

A video clip of Public Works Minister H D Revanna throwing biscuit packets at people housed in a relief centre has been making the rounds since Monday.

The second son of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda was called out widely for being insensitive and inconsiderate to people in his home district of Hassan, where the incident took place.

Pavan JD, founder of Instagram page Namma Karnataka Memes, volunteering in Kodagu, is shocked. “There is so much to be done here. It’s very insensitive of someone in his position to behave like that,” he says.

Dr V Senthil Kumar Reddi, additional professor, department of psychiatry, Nimhans, says, “It’s hard to say why he did what he did.”

His recommendation to people offering succour: “Ask, support and listen to problems. Don’t tell them things will get better; it’s considered inappropriate. Let them know there is help and you can help them get to it. Be mindful of the victims’ situation.”

Be sensitive

“No matter which political party you belong or who you are, learn to be sensitive and treat everyone well. Give the victims the respect they deserve,” says C K Subbaiah, secretary, Kodava Samaja.
