The premises of Mount Carmel College was full of young, enthusiastic students, all set to perform at the Classical Night. It was for this night that most of the MCC girls spent days practising, to give in their best.

Aimed at bringing together different types of music and dance from various parts of the world, Classical Night was a journey through traditional and modern music and dance. The chief guest for the programme was Padmini Ramachandran, a renowned danseuse.

St Joseph’s Arts and Science College, Christ University, Alliance Francaise and St Joseph’s Commerce College were the participants of the Classical Night. An amalgamation of different styles was seen in all the dances and songs.
The night kick-started with Ave Maria, a Latin tribute from the MCC Western Music Association, followed by a raga maalika called Baro Krishnaiah, which was dedicated to Lord Krishna and was sung by MCC student Keerthana.

St Joseph’s Arts and Science College performed Tibetan folk music, which was very unique as it was all about peace and gratitude. The Kannada Sangha from the MCC sang two foot-tapping Janapada songs — Hosa Varsha and Kurudu Kanchana.
The MCC Western Music Association sang many more songs most of which were jazz and Latin in nature. Nivedita, a second year BA student from Mount Carmel College said, “We took a lot of pain and practiced for many days after classes and each day was great fun. It feels so good to look at it going off well today and all our efforts taste like sweet now.”

There was a terrific Bharatanatyam performance called Mahadeva Shivashambo from Mount Carmel College again, for which the participants were trained by the chief guest Padmini Ramachandran. Navya, a final year BA student said, “We had a great time here and we came fully prepared to perform in the instrumental, dance and singing sections. We got to see various kinds of exceptional talent and this will surely help us hone our skills.”

Other performances like dhol kunitha, bamboo dance, ballet, Odissi and choral music thrilled the audience, giving them sweet memories of the evening to take back home.
