Residents of Bilaspur will now have air connectivity from their city as Bilaspur Airport has got the licence for operating commercial flights.

The Director General of Civil Aviation has written to the government of Chhattisgarh and Airport Authority of India in this regard.

Confirming the communication, Rakesh S Sahay, Director of Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur said, “On Thursday we received the letter. The airport is ready for use now. Ninety-seater aircraft can land in the airport. Private players can commence commercial operations from Bilaspur.”

Bilaspur, after Raipur and Jagdalpur, is the third airport in Chhattisgarh to get the commercial licence. Officials of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had inspected the airport in the last week of October and given direction for necessary changes. After all the directives were implemented, the licence was granted.

Bilaspur Collector P Dayanand said, “All our efforts have paid off."
