BJP's face in the Northeast

Kiren Rijiju, the three-time MP from Arunachal West constituency, was the minister of state for home in the first tenure of Narendra Modi government. Appreciated for his outright character and good oratory, Rijiju is considered one of the best performing leaders in the Northeast.

He is one of the two big faces of BJP in the Northeast, the other being Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004 but was defeated by Congress leader Takam Sanjoy in 2009. He got elected in 2014 and was among the probable minister in the second Modi council.

His role in containing militancy in the Northeast and the racial abuse of people from the region living in rest of the country has been hailed by people, irrespective of party affiliations. Rijiju, a health-conscious minister has travelled to many parts of the world.
