JOIN USThe Gujarat government is on a collision course with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre over allotment of natural gas to domestic consumers in Ahmedabad.
A day after a Central minister claimed that the UPA government was allocating adequate gas to Gujarat, the BJP government in the state hit back on Monday claiming that the minister was misleading the people.
The Gujarat government has been raising the demand for natural gas to domestic users in Ahmedabad on the lines of Delhi and Mumbai. However, on Sunday, Union Minister of State for Petroleum R P N Singh addressing reporters alleged that the Modi government was spreading false stories on the gas allocation.
UPA misleading people
He claimed that the Centre was allocating natural gas to the state in line with what was being allocated to other states. However, on Monday, led by senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who is in Gujarat to take stock of poll preparedness, the BJP upped the ante and alleged that the UPA minister had mislead the people of the state.
“The minister is talking about the allocation to the fertilizer industry and did not talk about the domestic user at all. Gujarat has been getting injustice from the Centre on allocation meant for domestic users as we are forced to buy from outside India at higher prices,” Jaitley alleged.
BJP slams govt on illegal immigrants
The BJP continued to up its ante on the issue of illegal immigrants. Addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad on Monday, party leader Arun jaitley said that time and again the BJP had asked the Congress to tackle the issue of illegal immigrants but it had failed to do so. Accusing the Congress of failing to address the problem, Jaitley said that the crisis in Assam was on account of inaction over the matter. He, however, said the party wanted peace to be restored in the state.
