Accusing him of making false promises, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "jhutha chowkidar".

Mamata was addressing a Trinamool Congress (TMC) rally in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district.

"Others say Chowkidar chor hain. I say chowkidar jhutha hain. He has never told the truth in his life," the TMC supremo said.

Referring to the prime minister's promise of bringing back black money from abroad and depositing Rs 15 lakh in everyone's account, the chief minister accused him of cheating people to get their votes.

"People are saying chowkidar jhutha hain. Where is the Rs 15 lakh he spoke about? Why unemployed are getting jobs? Why 12,000 farmers have committed suicide? Why people are getting killed in the name of gau raksha?" said Mamata.

"Now they (BJP) are saying they will do NRC in Bengal and drive out everyone. We (TMC) will never allow NRC to take place in Bengal," she said.

Mamata also said that 22 lakh Bengali Hindus had been left out of NRC in Assam.

The TMC chief further alleged that BJP disrupted peace in the Darjeeling Hills by supporting the sidelined Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) president Bimal Gurung during the Gorkhaland agitation.

Dubbing Modi as an “expiry prime minister”, the TMC supremo alleged that he is only bothered about publicity and not the people.

“Sometimes he is the fake chowkidar and sometimes he is the feku chowkidar,” she said.

Mamata also referred to a recent comment by Sayantan Basu, BJP candidate from Basirhat Lok Sabha seat, who had said that he would tell the CRPF to aim for the chest and not legs if anyone tried to capture polling booths.

“CRPF is an impartial organisation. Modi can’t use them," she said, accusing the BJP of becoming arrogant.

She also indicated that by winning all 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, TMC would be the king-maker after the elections.
