Despite being hit by a series of corruption allegations, the Congress has bagged the highest number of seats in elections to the 10 civic bodies in Maharashtra with its ally the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured second position.

Of the total 199 seats that went to polls on Sunday, the Congress won 90 while the NCP bagged 65; the Shiv Sena just managed to win 22, while the BJP and Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) stood with mere six seats each.

Local parties secured four seats while independent candidates managed to claim six seats.
In the tribal Nandurbar, the Congress swept the civic body garnering 36 of the 37 seats.
