The preferential treatment accorded to senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler during the coronation of Sheila Dixit as Delhi Congress chief has invited strong reactions.

The Akali Dal on Wednesday lashed out at the Congress for this, while asking Congress president Rahul Gandhi to explain ‘why he was protecting 1984 genocide perpetrator’ Jagdish Tytler by extending him ‘VIP treatment’.

Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said it was condemnable that Tytler was seated in the front row at the function in which Dixit took charge as president of the Delhi Congress. He alleged that the importance given to Tytler at an official Congress function was in line with the Gandhi family policy to honour and protect the 1984 culprits. “Why is Tytler not being expelled from the Congress.

Another Rajiv Gandhi 'crony' Kamal Nath, who is also accused of mass murder, was made chief minister of Madhya Pradesh”, he said, adding that such posts and perks bestowed upon these people hurt the sentiments of Sikh community at large.

Akali Dal leaders had earlier strongly protested the appointment of Nath as CM of Madhya Pradesh. Majithia said the continued ‘protection’ offered to Tytler by the Gandhi family establishes that both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have been offering only lip sympathy to the Sikh community and not acting to assuage the hurt sentiments of the community.

The Akali leader said the Congress’s actions send out a clear signal to the Sikh community that they should rely solely on the wheels of justice to catch up with all those who butchered innocent Sikhs in 1984. “If the Gandhi family had any sympathy with the victims or even human values they would have put the guilty behind bars in 1985 itself. By not doing so they have proved that they are complicit in this crime,” he alleged.
