Delhi LG lists AAP agenda in Assembly address

Last Updated 06 January 2014, 21:12 IST

Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung on Monday addressed the Assembly, his speech hovering around the 16-point agenda of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to run the government with the Jan Lokpal as priority.

He, however, warned the power distribution companies (discoms) of cancellation of licences if they did not co-operate with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the audit of their accounts.

The LG also observed that “Delhi has overwhelmingly voted for change in the just-concluded elections”.

“At the very top of government’s priorities would be to bridge the chasm between the citizens and the government. The government will put an end to all symbols of privilege and power that distance the citizen from it. No minister or MLA will use a red beacon on his or her car and special security will be avoided,” he said.

Not specifying the cases and charges of corruption, the LG maintained that the government would not tolerate corruption.

“ Passing the version of the Lokpal Bill that led Anna Hazare to undertake a fast will be priority for the government,” he said.
