Two guards, including a woman, were admitted to hospital for minor injuries following the clash. The incident happened when the guards tried to stop some opposition members from advancing towards the Speaker’s podium demanding suspension of a police officer who fired at protesting SFI activists at Kozhikkode recently. While the ruling United Democratic Front MLAs alleged that guards were manhandled by Opposition MLAs, the LDF members said they were attacked by the watch and ward staff.
To end the impasse, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy suggested examining the video footage of the incident. The footage was examined by members of both fronts in the evening in the presence of Assembly Speaker but that did not yield any conclusive evidence of what really happened.
