Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Friday urged the Supreme Court to take suo moto cognisance of the situation in Ayodhya and order deployment of army in the temple town if necessary to maintain status quo at the disputed site.
''BJP does not believe in the constitution. It can go to any extent. The Supreme Court should take suo moto cognisance of the situation in Ayodhya and order deployment of army if required,'' Akhilesh said in a statement in Lucknow.
The SP leader expressed serious concern over ''saffron build up'' in Ayodhya and accused the BJP of trying to foment communal tension for political mileage.
