Notification for the first phase of polling in Assam to be held on March 27 was issued on Tuesday.

Polling for 47 of Assam's 126 Assembly constituencies will be conducted in the first phase, in which 80,07,043 voters will cast their votes. These constituencies are located in eastern and North Assam districts.

A statement issued by the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Assam said March 9 is the last date for submission of nomination papers by candidates while the same will be scrutinised on March 10. March 12 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

Assam will witness polling in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6 in which a total of 23,18,6362 voters will exercise their franchise.

Polling for 39 constituencies in Barak Valley, central Assam and a few constituencies in Bodoland Territorial Region will be conducted in the second phase. In the third phase, polling will be held for 40 constituencies in western Assam, including Guwahati.

Counting will take place on May 2.

The ruling BJP is going ahead with alliance with two regional players, Asom Gana Parishad and United People's Party Liberal. Congress, on the other hand, has stitched a "grand alliance" with six other parties including Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front and Bodoland People's Front, BJP's ally in 2016 elections. Two other regional parties, Assam Jatiya Parishad and Raijor Dal, which were born out of the anti-CAA agitation, are also contesting the elections jointly.
