One person was arrested in relation to the murder of a school teacher and his family in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. The murder became bone of contention between the BJP, RSS and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), as the RSS claimed the teacher was their supporter.

Speaking to journalists, Superintendent of Police of Murshidabad, Mukesh Kumar said that the prime accused in the case, Utpal Behra was arrested from Saharpur area of the district. The teacher Bandhu Gopal Pal was murdered along with his wife and son last week. He also said that Behra was arrested late on Monday night.

“Behra bought an insurance policy from Pal. The former gave the receipt to Behra of the first premium. But according to Behra Pal was neither giving him the receipt for the second premium nor was returning the amount,” said Kumar.

According to police during interrogation, Behra said that recently Pal abused him after he asked him to return his money. It was then Behra decided to kill Pal.

Police reiterated that there were no political links to the murder and took place due to personal animosity over the financial transaction.

Pal’s family members said that they were not satisfied with the investigation by the state police and demanded a CBI probe of the incident.
