Former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan, who hogged media attention after he converted to Islam to marry his ‘ladylove’ some years ago, is positioning his foreign-bred son Siddharth Bishnoi for active politics.

Chander Mohan had met Congress President Rahul Gandhi last month in London. Mohan is the son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, who during his lifetime self-proclaimed a degree in politics. Mohan also intends to seek his rehabilitation into active politics as a Congressman ahead of elections.
Mohan suddenly went missing when he was the former Deputy CM in B S Hooda-led Congress government. He then surfaced as Chand Mohammad, announcing he had married his ladylove and former deputy advocate general of Punjab Anuradha Bali, who by then had also converted to Islam with a new name ‘Fiza’. Within no time, the couple became estranged. Fiza committed suicide some time later at her house in Mohali, near here.

Tree plantation

Saturday is the birth anniversary of Bhajan Lal. Mohan’s son Siddharth, who has set up a Bhajan Lal Foundation to aggrandise his grandfather’s legacy, is attempting to champion the cause of environment through a massive tree plantation drive. Sources said, the exercise by the junior Mohan is an attempt to showcase himself as a leader. The Bishnoi memorial will be honouring 363 community members, who sacrificed their lives to protect hundreds of trees in 1730 AD.
