Flood relief report awaited: PC

The minister told M V Rajasekharan, veteran Congress leader from Karnataka, that the Centre would lose no time in meeting the demands from the state government but as per the report of the Central team.

No fund constraints

Chidambaram told the former Union minister that funds would not be a constraint, adding that the state government should fully utilise the money available with it in this regard.
Rajasekharan, who presented his own account of the post-flood situation following his visit to the affected districts, told Chidambaram that the response of the state government to the disaster was slow and inadequate to meet the enormity of the sufferings of the victims.
Rajasekharan alleged that the government officials and ministers delayed in meeting the requirements of the people.

In a letter to prime minister Manmohan Singh, Rajasekharan alleged that there was no transparency in preparing the list of affected people for providing immediate relief and rehabilitation.

Though the Centre had instructed the state to establish disaster management authorities at the state, district and taluk levels, no action has been taken in this regard.
The Congress Member or Legislative Council (MLC) made several suggestions to the Centre regarding flood relief which include changes in the guidelines governing the funds released to the states so as to provide reasonable relief to the victims.
