The MP-MLA couple of Navneeet Kaur Rana and husband Ravi Rana have been issued a notice by a Mumbai court for allegedly violating one of the conditions set for their bail.

The court, on Monday, sought a response from the Ranas why a non-bailable warrant should not be issued against them for the said offence.

The Ranas - Ravi is a three-time Independent MLA from Badnera and Navneet is an Independent MP from Amravati - travelled to New Delhi where they are to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to complain about the treatment meted out to them by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

“From our journey from home to police lock-up to jail, we will tell what happened for us,” the couple told reporters before they left Mumbai.

Subsequently, the Mumbai Police filed an application before the Mumbai City Civil & Sessions Court seeking cancellation of Ranas’ bail on the grounds that they violated one of the conditions imposed by the special court while granting them bail, last week.

Among the conditions of the bail were that the couple were not to talk to the media about the case.

“The accused persons (Navneet Kaur Rana and Ravi Rana) have given interviews to media since their release and hence, flouted the condition imposed by the special court while granting them bail. We are seeking for the bail to be cancelled and a warrant to be issued to the accused and they should be taken in custody forthwith,” Special Public Prosecutor Pradip Gharat argued in court.

Before their departure to the national capital, the Ranas had a brief interaction with the media.

Ravi had said that he would complain to central authorities about the dealings of two Shiv Sena leaders - party spokesperson Sanjay Raut and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab - who are close aides of Uddhav Thackeray and have played a major role in the formation of the MVA government.

Navneet had said Thackeray, “who backstabbed the BJP”, should not talk and teach the Ranas about principles.

“We are going to Delhi and meet all the leaders who respect women. I will tell them how we were arrested, how we were ill-treated from lockup to jail. I am going to complain about it,” she said.

The couple was booked on charges of sedition and promoting enmity between different groups. The special court had on May 4 granted bail to the couple and imposed some conditions on them, including not to indulge in a similar offence and not to speak to the media.
