Anil Patel was questioned last night for his alleged role in the murder and was taken into custody this morning, police said.
The 32-year-old professor was killed on the night of December 17 at her official residence inside the high-security campus at Rau.
Panchal was attacked with sharp-edged weapons and was stabbed nearly a dozen times causing her grievous injuries.
