Andhra Pradesh opposition leader and YSR Congress Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy was stabbed on his left shoulder in the Visakhapatnam airport lounge on Thursday, by a person identified as Srinivasa Rao, an airport canteen staffer. However, Jagan who received a bleeding wound on the backside of the shoulder is said to be safe after a first aid at the airport.

Reddy, who was on his way to Hyderabad after breaking his ongoing padayatra to attend court on Friday, was approached by the accused who wanted to take a selfie with the leader. As Jagan obliged, he came close to him and attacked him with a knife. Jagan’s security immediately caught hold of the attacker and handed him over to CISF personnel. Jagan took the scheduled flight and is on his way to Hyderabad.

Party MLA Roja speaking to media persons has accused the state government for the security lapse at the airport. “If a person can roam around in an airport with a knife and attack a very important political leader we can understand what kind of policing is going on,” Roja said.

She further demanded the state government to investigate the background of the person and to initiate stern action.

Roja further expressed fear that poison might have been used in the attack. “What if the knife is laced with some poison,” she said.
