JNU porn video scandal: Two students suspended

Last Updated 09 February 2011, 15:43 IST

The students were suspended pending the completion of the inquiry, being headed by Chief Proctor H B Bohidar.

"Two students have been suspended by the Chief Proctor in connection with this incident. This has been done on the basis of the preliminary findings of the probe panel," Dean of Students Welfare V K Jain said.

The video clip circulating around the campus showed two students of the School of Languages in a compromising position. The boy who allegedly shot the video is a student of computer applications, officials said, adding that the girl left the university last year.

The varsity had made it clear that strong action would be taken against those found guilty.
Both the suspended students are residents of Tapti hostel, an official said.

The University officials had earlier said they intended to finish their inquiry within a week and would then approach the police with a formal complaint.

The panel probing the incident questioned a number of students over the past two days.
The video clip was reportedly shot in April last year in JNU's Tapti hostel. The incident came to light when a department of the university submitted the clip to the Proctor's office.

An HRD ministry official had said the issue is likely to figure when the newly-appointed JNU Vice Chancellor S K Sopory calls on HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on February 10.
