Kamal says no alliance with DMK, AIADMK

Last Updated 08 February 2019, 10:41 IST

Actor Kamal Haasan on Thursday ruled out an alliance with the DMK and the AIADMK, saying he does not want to “dirty his hands.”

The actor said that his party, the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), will contest all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the ensuing elections on its own.

Kamal also said that he is likely to contest the Lok Sabha elections, but refused to give further details on his electoral debut.

The actor, who launched the MNM last February, has been giving mixed signals on whether his party would face the polls as part of an alliance or will go alone.

“There will be no alliance with both of them (the DMK and the AIADMK). We don’t want to dirty our hands, and this is not to blame anyone, but just to keep reminding us that we should keep our hands clean,” Kamal said, responding to questions whether he would ally with the two Dravidian parties.

Kamal’s statement on Thursday puts an end to a months-long speculation about his party’s stand during the Lok Sabha elections.
